Proven performance and lower whole life costs

Advanced polymer technology increases membrane life
The first Sarnafil roofs were installed more than forty years ago, with early examples still providing reliable protection today.
Since that time independent testing has repeatedly confirmed Sarnafil’s membrane formulation as the best in the industry, with Sarnafil products withstanding the test of time in every conceivable climate.

Optimised performance
With Sarnafil, the performance of your roof against wind uplift is guaranteed.
As part of the specification process Sarnafil calculates the roof wind loading using bespoke software to provide calculations that are covered by our Design Insurance.

SarnaTherm insulation – performance plus…
In addition to meeting demands for lower ‘U’ Values, Building Regulations Part L/J now require designers to consider both air leakage and the thermal transmittance of penetrating elements (thermal bridging). This integrated approach to better management and conservation of energy is reflected in Sarnafil’s ‘system’ approach to roofing. The wide range of SarnaTherm insulation options, available to suit virtually any application or roof construction, can assist the construction industry in meeting the government’s commitments to the Kyoto Protocol.
When specifying SarnaTherm Sarnafil Technical Advisers will also take additional factors, such as fire ratings and acoustic performance, into consideration.

Acoustic performance
The flexibility of on-site construction enables Sarnafil roofing systems to accommodate most acoustic requirements for a building, for both internal and external sources.

Fire performance
Sarnafil membranes are self extinguishing on all common insulants and meet the Building Regulations requirements for external fire spread resistance, enabling the specifier to meet the client’s insurance demands without compromising on aesthetics, acoustics or installed cost requirements. Many of the Sarnafil systems are also LPCB and Factory Mutual tested and approved.

Lower whole life costs
Durability and low maintenance are two key factors in any whole life cost assessment. With a BBA Certified life expectancy of in excess of 30 years, and minimal maintenance requirements, Sarnafil membranes consistently demonstrate a low whole life cost when calculated using the Whole Life Cost Forum methodology.

Realise your vision with Sarnafil

Flat, pitched, domed, vaulted...new build or refurbishment... whatever the roof type, Sarnafil roofing offers huge scope for the specifier to create a roof with aesthetic appeal to match its high performance.

Versatile performance
In roofing applications where aesthetics are important, Sarnafil roofing systems offer the specifier almost unlimited creative freedom. They can be applied to virtually any roof shape or construction and are equally suitable for contemporary or traditional designs.

Colour range
Sarnafil membranes are available in a range of colours. Some of these have been formulated to reproduce the appearance of various forms of traditional metal roofs.

Colours

Clean lines with no visible fixings
Where the roof soffit may be visible below, visible fixings can be undesirable. Sarnafil’s fully adhered system is the ideal solution for this application and provides a clean, uninterrupted roof surface.

Respecting tradition
Sarnafil Decor and Batten profiles provide the specifier with the opportunity to reproduce the appearance of traditional metal roofs. Traditional lead batten roll, copper and modern standing seam roofs can all be realistically reproduced.
These products have been used to stunning effect in the refurbishment of many historic and listed buildings.

Roof Graphics
Sarnafil membranes can be supplied in special colours to order (subject to quantity). These can be cut to form graphics or logos which can be heat welded onto the existing Sarnafil roof. This provides a high impact promotional or brand-building opportunity for building owners whose premises are overlooked or on a flightpath.

Green roofing
The use of plants or greening on roofs can be dated back to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, a typical example of this type of roofing being used for amenity and aesthetic reasons. More recently, green roofs have been used for both aesthetic and environmental reasons, with the green roof replacing the green ‘footprint’ lost by the erection of the building. Today, the significant contributions of the green roof towards sustainable drainage systems are increasingly being recognised. Sarnafil’s SarnaVert system provides options for biodiverse, extensive and intensive green roofs and enables the specification of hybrid systems to suit local environmental and design requirements.

Practical site advantages start here

Sarnafil Roofing Systems are designed to reduce installation time and minimise any risk of incorrect installation.
On completion for guarantee, all Sarnafil roofs are inspected by our Applications Department – the same team that trained the installers.

Sarnafil – installed by experts
Sarnafil installation is part of our carefully managed Quality Management System and is carried out by Sarnafil trained installers. Field Technicians from our Applications Department provide training for the roofing installers, inspect projects during installation and have responsibility for inspecting the completed project for guarantee.

Faster installation
Speed of installation is an important Sarnafil advantage, reducing site time, associated costs and inconvenience. By their nature, single-ply roofing systems are less labour intensive than traditional roofing methods. However, Sarnafil has developed products and procedures to further streamline the installation process. Our ‘Sarnamatic 661 plus’ welding machine operates at up to 3.6 metres per minute. That’s twice the speed of previous models and up to four times the speed of hand welding.
Sarnamatic welding also ensures that critical parameters such as heat and speed can be set correctly for all variations of membrane thickness, to ensure a perfect weld every time.
To maximise the Sarnamatic advantage, our Sarnafast system provides a complete high-speed fastening solution for flat roofs. With this system, membrane sheets are fastened on one side, using thermally broken fasteners. Overlaps are then welded using a Sarnamatic.
The Sarnafast system offers speed, security, economy of installation and superior fastener performance. These features mean that Sarnafast systems typically require half the number of fasteners of conventional lap fastened systems.

Excellent safety
Unlike many traditional bituminous roofing systems, Sarnafil roofing systems are cold applied, removing the risks asociated with naked flames and high temperature liquids on-site.

Less disruption
In applications where noise is a concern, our fully adhered roofing systems can be installed with limited noise and disruption compared to the installation of fasteners.
In many refurbishment projects, due to the vapour permeability of the membrane, Sarnafil roofing systems can be applied over the existing substrate (subject to survey), allowing the building to remain in use during refurbishment, saving time and money.

Roofing systems overview

Sarnafil roofing systems fall into four broad categories: mechanically fastened, adhered, ballasted and green roofs. Within these different roof types there are a number of options to suit almost every kind of construction and design requirement.

Sarnafast Mechanically Fastened System
The Sarnafast System offers speed, security and economy of installation in applications which provide regular fixing centres, including profiled steel decks.

Ideal for applications with the following criteria:

  • Location subject to high winds
  • Large roof area
  • Fastrack installation requirement
  • Impracticality of adhered attachment

Sarnabar Mechanically Fastened System
The Sarnabar System features linear fastening bars which are attached at right angles to the direction of the membrane.
This versatile system is ideal for use when fixing points are dictated by existing timber joists or channel reinforcement, or for use on concrete roofs where the Sarnafast system is less practical.

Ideal for applications with the following criteria:

  • Location subject to very high winds
  • Concrete Deck
  • Irregular or bespoke design
  • Impracticality of adhered or Sarnafast attachment
